Boone Hall Plantation was a great day spent. The plantation was very beautiful, the grounds were not as nice as some but they had a lot of farm land on this plantation that was still being used today. The house has passed through many hands and is still being used by the current owners. A brother and sister own the plantation and still use the upper two floors on occasion.
This property still had nine original slave cottages on the grounds by the wall surrounding the main house. There are also some beautiful stables, but the tour didn't cover those so I'm not sure what the story is there. The one tour guide did say that one of the owners used to breed thoroughbreds and a different tour guide said they have polo matches on the grounds occasionally, so who knows.
We toured the inside, some of the gardens, the slave quarters, we sat through an interesting talk about Gullah Coulture. It had to do with the African Slaves and was very interesting. We walked down to the cotton dock, we got some ice cream in the Butterfly Cafe, the ice cream was made on the property and it was very good, we walked through the butterfly garden and of course the entire time I was taking pictures. It was another good day. Tomorrow Steve and I are going to go to Patriots Point and tour the battleship. That will be interesting. We have been on aircraft carriers and in submarines, but I don't think I've been on a battleship.
